You may have heard that dental sealants are great for the health of your teeth, and that they could even stop cavities from forming–but what else have you heard about this important treatment? For example, do you know if you’re a good candidate for sealants or why sealants benefit you?
Dental sealants are typically recommended because they can keep bacteria out of the center of your teeth. These sealants are specifically useful for your back molars, because they’re in an area of your mouth that might be difficult to reach—and to clean adequately. In other words, if you have sealants placed, you may be able to avoid cavities, which helps you keep your teeth healthier.
But how do you know if sealants are right for you? Typically, children–specifically children between six and twelve years old–are the best candidates. However, anyone with healthy teeth can also be a good candidate. In addition, if your teeth are weak, our team may recommend sealants in an effort to save your teeth.
Sealants can last for many years, especially if they’re cared for well. But sealants should not take the place of regular brushing and flossing. If you would like to learn more about dental sealants, or would like to learn more about how you can protect the health of your teeth, please don’t hesitate to contact Basking Ridge Dental Group at 908-509-4428.
